SUMMARY:Movie Night — Real Organic Project Symposium: Is Tillage Evil?
DESCRIPTION:This event has been canceled. All ticket purchases will be automatically refunded. \nJoin us for a special screening of Session 2 of the Real Organic Project Symposium\, a virtual series of talks presented documentary style with more than 40 prominent organic farmers\, scientists\, chefs\, and climate activists. \nSession 2: Is Tillage Evil? \nWe will talk about the dogmatic push to move all farmers toward “no-till” practices for better soil health. But\, are the concerns around tillage justified\, given organic farmers have increased soil organic matter for decades with tillage and cover crops? “No-till” outside of organic agriculture includes the termination of cover crops with herbicides\, along with the continued use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. An unexpected side-effect of this chemical “no-till” includes increased run-off of surface applied fertilizers\, soil acidification\, and greater herbicide use. This has led some scientists to wonder whether the focus on soil health should be centered around the use of synthetics instead of tillage.

SUMMARY:Movie Night — Real Organic Project Symposium: How Does Regenerative Differ from Organic?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening of Session 1 of the Real Organic Project Symposium\, a virtual series of talks presented documentary style with more than 40 prominent organic farmers\, scientists\, chefs\, and climate activists. \nSession 1 : How Does Regenerative Differ from Organic? \nWe will discuss the history and meaning of the two terms. How have chemical companies worked to discredit “organic” while also embracing the term “regenerative”? Can both of these groups use the word without confusion and compromise? Finally\, which version of regenerative are the billions of dollars in USDA funding for “climate smart” supporting? Can chemical companies that promote “no-till” practices using herbicides and fertilizers really be “climate smart”? In the face of powerful greenwashing\, this session explores the question of how to promote a united\, worldwide movement for a saner agriculture… and quickly!

SUMMARY:Healthy Menstruation: Food and Herbs to Support a Pain-Free Cycle
DESCRIPTION:There can be a lot of pain and baggage associated with our ‘time of the month’ for folks with menstrual cycles. In this class\, dietician Melinda Penny-Washington\, and herbalist Kellan Mackay will collaborate to uncover: how to know our bodies in relation to our cycles\, how to support them with foods and herbs\, to address the emotions surrounding menstruation\, and ultimately to appreciate our cycles. \nThis is a two-part class that will allow a moon cycle to pass in between. Your ticket is valid for the whole workshop which includes both dates. \nPart I— April 29 (3:30pm to 5:30pm): We will look at the history and practices of menstruation through a multicultural lens and encourage folks to get curious about their ancestral roots on this topic. One of the reasons that the menstrual cycle is considered ‘the curse’ is because of what have been considered ‘problems’ associated with it. We will address food and herbs for cramps\, pain\, lethargy\, and food cravings. We will also illuminate actionable ways for folks to develop a ritual around their cycle that feels safe and sacred. \nPart II — May 27 (3:30pm to 5:30pm): We’ll get into the kitchen! We will show you how to make a few foods and herbal remedies for preventative and acute menstrual health. You will get recipes for nutritious soups\, snacks\, chocolates\, teas\, herbal body oils with essential oils for lymph care\, and herbal baths. This is where the rubber meets the road in choosing lifestyle practices that make sense for the symptoms you are experiencing and want to alleviate. \nAbout the Instructor(s):\nKellan MacKay is a garden coach\, horticulturist\, and herbalist. She has been studying organic and regenerative agriculture and herbalism\, growing and foraging to make herbal products\, and collecting plant knowledge in California for 13 years. She has been infusing oils\, formulating teas\, and making tinctures for her product line for five years. Kellan is the mom of twins who used her diet and knowledge about plants to influence a healthy birth outcome for herself and her kids. You can find out more at https://khelaherbs.com/ \nMelinda Penny-Washington — As a registered dietitian specializing in diabetes and ancestral wisdom and a guided meditation practitioner Melinda guides others in the understanding of what the body needs to heal\, the connections between culture and health habits\, and how to remove the subconscious blockers to achieve desired health outcomes. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate wine-tasting event with Frey Vineyards\, America’s first certified organic and Biodynamic winery. Learn about this third-generation family-owned winery\, their methods\, and how they care for the land as part of their process of winemaking. A representative from the winery will walk us through each tasting and each varietal will be paired with small accompanying bites. \nAbout the Instructor: Jonathan Frei\nAfter receiving a degree in Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Vermont School of Agriculture\, Jonathan Frei joined Frey Vineyards in 1988 (not a typo- a Frei married a Frey!) For four decades of harvest\, Jonathan has evaluated each block of grapes for Brix and acid and physiological ripeness to determine optimal harvest dates. He works closely with Frey Vineyards’ many organic grape grower partners. He delights in blending the batches to achieve award-winning wines. An avid gardener and expert in native plants\, Jonathan has landscaped the courtyards around the winery with California natives. He travels across the country educating our distributor partners about USDA organic\, no sulfites added wines and Biodynamic wines. Today two of his three children also work for the family winery. \n
