Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • ¼ cup brandy
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 4 whole cloves

Cooking Instructions

Place the sliced oranges into a small Dutch oven or heavy bottomed pot. Add the wine, brandy, sweetener and spices.

Warm the mixture slowly over medium heat until steaming (about 5 minutes). When you start seeing bubbles at the surface, reduce the heat to very low and simmer for 15 minutes.

Add more sweetener to taste. Simmering longer will bring out more spiciness. You can keep it on the stove or transfer to a crockpot to keep warm for serving at a party.
